Jim Koontz

Jim Koontz was born in Lubbock, Texas in November of 1948. In 1955 the family moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where Jim’s mom and dad started a roofing company. Jim attended twelve years of school in Hobbs, New Mexico. During summers starting in 1960, Jim worked at the roofing company. Jim attended Engineering School at Tulane University starting in 1967 and received a Bachelor of Science in Engineering in

May of 1971. Jim continued with college and received a Master’s in Business Administration in December of 1971.

Jim married Margaret Joan Blair in December of 1970. Jim and Joan have two daughters Jill and Jamey and six grandchildren. Jim became a licensed engineer in New Mexico in 1976. Additional engineering licenses were obtained in multiple states over the years.

Roof Engineering Inc. (REI) was started in 1976 and provided roof consulting services throughout the United States. REI was acquired by Professional Services Industries (PSI) in 1989. Jim served as Vice President of PSI and managed nine of its roof consulting offices. Jim D. Koontz & Associates, Inc. was

formed in 1991 and provided roof consulting services throughout the United States. During this time frame, Jim authored twentysix technical articles on roofing and was a guest speaker at numerous roofing conventions. Jim formally retired from roof consulting in March of 2023.
